Winning wine in UK

25thJun 13

Wine tastings in the UKOK – so the UK isn’t necessarily famed for its wine, but here in the South East of England, we’re rightly proud of our local growers and suppliers. The soil offers a good basis for grapes, particularly for white wines. Alongside award winning Sussex-based Ridgeview with its stunning sparkling wines – wines that challenge even the champagnes of France and have earned a whole cupboard of trophies – Sedlescombe is the latest to fly the flag for British wine. And this time it’s a red!

Sedlescombe is a Sussex based vineyard nestled in the beautiful English countryside not far from Brighton, and has won two major medals at the recent ‘International Organic Wine Awards’, beating off competition wines from 18 countries. Of the 603 wines entered only the 2 award winners were ‘Produce of England’. These were: Sedlescombe Premier Brut 2010 vintage sparkling wine, and Sedlescombe 2011 Regent, an oak-matured red wine – possibly the first English red wine to win acclaim internationally. Both wines won the Silver award in their class.

Why not see and taste for yourself? The vineyard offers tours and wine tastings for groups and incentive programs, as well as traditional English Ploughmans lunches and afternoon teas, and the area around is not only beautiful, but full of rich history and heritage. As part of the experience, why not take in a visit to one of England’s oldest castles, or even a trip to the beach! It’s all a short distance away
